Biography

Prof.  Chris Obioma Nwoko was born in Umuahia, Abia State, Southeast Nigeria in 1971. He attended his primary and secondary school in Umuahia and later went to University of Calabar South-South Nigeria where he obtained his B.Sc degree (Biological Sciences) in 1995. He proceeded to University of Ibadan Southwest, Nigeria for his M.Sc and Ph.D degrees (Environmental Biology) in 1998 and 2010, respectively. He was appointed Assistant lecturer in the Department of Environmental Technology, Federal University of Technology, Owerri in 2001 where he has made significant progress in his academic career.  In 2017 he was appointed Professor of Environmental Management. Prof. Nwoko has mentored many young Nigerians in the field of Environmental management, some of whom are doing very well in their various fields of endeavor. Prof. Nwoko has consulted for private and Government Agencies in environmental related issues: Such as Impact Assessment Study, Ecosystem restoration and Waste management. He was the Lead Environmental Consultant on World Bank (Assisted Projects) for FADAMA III in Imo and Abia States of Nigeria from 2014-2015, Imo NEWMAP, 2020 and Imo State Special Agro Processing Zone  project , an African Development Bank Assisted Project.   He was Former Head, Department of Environmental Technology (2015-2017) and former Associate Dean of Environmental Sciences (2020-2021). He is currently the Deputy Director, World Bank Centre of Excellence in Procurement, Environment and Social Standards. Prof. Nwoko has over 40 publications to his credit in highly rated peer-reviewed journals nationally and internationally. He has been a keynote speaker in a number of conferences in Nigeria and abroad.   Prof. Nwoko is a member of Nigerian Environmental Society and Member, Board of Trustees, Ecological Society of Nigeria and International Biometric Society. He is happily married to Dr. (Mrs) Nnenna Nwoko and the marriage is blessed with four children.
