Biography

Dr. Francis Onyemaobi Ojiako is an Associate Professor and currently the Acting Director, Institute of Erosion Studies, FUTO where he attracted the ongoing construction of the institute’s administrative building. He has previously served as the Deputy Director, Centre for Agricultural Research and Extension (2014-2016) and successfully attracted the building where the Centre is currently situate. He was also the Deputy Director, FUTO Farms Limited (2017 – 2019).

Prior to his venturing into academics in 2009, he was in private agricultural sector as Farm Manager Walebod Farms Limited, Ilorin, Nigeria (1986-1995). A fairly large farm with a total of about 2,500 hectares, fully mechanized integrated farm – herds of cattle, poultry, arable, horticultural crops and hybrid seeds production.

Between 1995 and 2008, he was the Managing Director/CEO of Leonix Ventures Limited, Ilorin and Lokoja.  Leonix is primarily an agricultural company involved in many facets of agricultural businesses, agrochemicals importation and on farm distribution and application, tractors, land clearing implements and equipment.  During this period, he was involved in extensive travels, training, workshops, extension services on the safe use of agrochemicals, poultry and animal drugs, etc. While in the private sector, he enrolled at the University of Ilorin and successfully obtained his Masters and Ph.D Certificates in Crop Protection (Economic Entomology).

He was also the Project Coordinator and co-founder of Green & Clean Limited, an environmental and agro-allied services company involved in agrochemical and implements importation and distribution. He also

incorporated Kings Watch Limited, a Security company based in Ilorin, Kwara State.

 Ojiako has been very active in community service, being one of the initial founders of the non-salaried Special Marshal arm of the Federal Road Safety Corps, where he rose to become the Kwara State Coordinator in charge of the activities of this very important service arm for 5 years and later the Zonal Coordinator, responsible for the Marshals in Zone RS8 – kwara, Kogi and Ekiti States. He coordinated the building and handing over to the Federal Government, the first free accident clinic in Nigeria, situate at Bode Saadu along the Ilorin Jebba Road. He also built a Conference Hall, free of all charges, for the FRSC at Zone RS8 HQ in Ilorin.

He was very active in national politics, being one of the Ohaneze Ndigbo Mkpuke nominated members that founded the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Party between 2001 and 2002. He later became the Interim National Chairman of the party for 6 months in 2011.

Very keenly interested in community development, he was a prominent member of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu’s Leaders of Thought and a political head in Igbo Delegates Assembly (19 Northern States and Abuja). He holds 4 Chieftaincy titles: The Omeudo of Akaekwo in Uzoakoli Ancient Kingdom, Abia State (2004), the Ochuariri of Ogwuaga Abba Autonomous Community (2013), the Ochuariri of Ekitiafor Abba Autonomous Community (2016), the Ochuariri of Umudurunna Abba Autonomous Community (2018). Currently the President General of Ogwuaga Abba, he is married with children.
