The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Prof. Francis Chukwuemeka Eze has called on the Pre-Degree students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri to eschew distractions from fellow students, cultism, armed robbery and other misbehaviours capable of pulling them down against their respective good wills.

Prof. Francis C. Eze made this call in an interactive session with the students at the Pre-Degree hall on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

Speaking further, the Vice-Chancellor opined that the University was established in October 1980 with a definite mission to run practical and result oriented programmes as well as transform the nation’s economy from consumer-oriented status to production-oriented status with a strong technological foundation.

Also in his keynote address, Prof. Francis C. Eze added that one of the means of achieving the afore-mentioned objective was to establish the Pre-Degree programme in 2003 as a major source of attracting high-quality students in order to sustain the high level of FUTO graduates.

Earlier, in her welcome address, the Coordinator, Pre-Degree Unit, Prof. (Mrs) Cynthia E. Ogukwe expressed happiness for the Vice-Chancellor who made out time and created history to interact with the Pre-Degree students.

Adding further, Prof. Ogukwe stressed that the Vice-Chancellor was the first Coordinator of the Pre-Degree Unit while pointing out that Prof. Francis C. Eze established the standard and stepping stone upon which the subsequent Coordinators consistently worked with.

In appreciation, the Pre-Degree Unit bestowed on the Vice-Chancellor an award of Diligence. Also honoured with awards of recognition were; Prof. Israel Ndukwe, Prof. P.C. Obasi, Prof. S.I. Okorondu and Dr Emma Mbamala who were previously the 2^nd, 3^rd, 5^th and 6^th Pre-Degree coordinators respectively.
